Farmer protests continue. Agriculture Minister Henryk Kowalczyk has been hit with eggs several times already, and the strikers are demanding his resignation. This was announced by Marshal of the Seimas Elzbieta Vitek.
The situation in Polish agriculture is very tense. Farmers have been protesting for days now, mostly over Ukrainian grain, which they believe is flowing uncontrollably into Poland. The opposition accepted the demands of the protesters and demanded the resignation of Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Henryk Kowalczyk.
Vitek: I understand the farmers, they are in a difficult situation
Marshal of the Sejm Elzbieta Vitek was asked about this. The Polsat news broadcast, among other things, the question of when the proposal to resign the Minister of Agriculture will be voted on.
– I understand the protests of the farmers, but we must remember what caused them. Poland is a big hub, we agreed to accept Ukrainian wheat, which was supposed to go to African countries - She said. - I think that soon he will report real help, which he will send to farmers - she added, adding that, in her opinion, the dismissal of Henryk Kowalczyk was unreasonable.
“Farmers need to be listened to. They regret because the situation is difficult. We really understand these protests and see them. However, you need to cool emotions and offer solutions. Minister Kowalczyk will do it - said the Speaker of the Sejm.
No one could have predicted the pandemic and the war
Marshal Elzbieta Vitek reminded that it is very important to remember where the current problems of farmers came from. She admitted that it is almost impossible to predict how difficult times will be.
“No one in 2019 could have predicted that a pandemic would break out and then a war would break out right at our border,” she said. “You can always say that something could have been done better or differently. The situation is really difficult, but Minister Kowalczyk has already prepared solutions - added Elzbieta Witek.
