The question of worms in the Polish diet is still of concern to many. For several weeks, eating insect meal became a political topic. According to experts, this is due to the decision of the European Union regarding the possibility of adding ground cricket powder to food.

However, the food novelty is of increasing interest among consumers. Meet & Fit, 7 Street and Pizzeria Frentzza in Warsaw and Zirardow are the first in Poland to serve insects, according to industry portals.

- This is a seasonal offer. Lukasz Blazejewski, owner of a restaurant chain, says in an interview with Wprost.pl. - We wanted to bring something new to the menu and at the same time give customers the opportunity to try something optional, but available on the market. And this dish is edible he adds. However, he points out that everything was carefully planned and prepared in advance.

A new dish is offered as a trifle

According to Lukasz Blazejewski, it was also about presenting the new dish as a food curiosity. - In our restaurants we often serve original dishes. One of them is burgers with the hottest peppers in the world. he convinces.

The manager admits that he personally tasted the taste of the hamburger offered in his restaurants. - The taste is very delicate, as if the burger was sprinkled with sunflower or pumpkin. she says. - The insects themselves are crunchy. Their taste depends on how they were fried and with what spices they were mixed. It can be compared to the taste of chips. - claims.

At first glance, the sandwich looks normal. This is a classic beef burger. It also contains arugula, cheese, pickled cucumber and tomato slices, red onion and chili lime sauce. Complementing it are mealworm larvae, they are an addition or topping, as restaurant visitors notice.

There are 15 to 18 larvae in a sandwich, and each of them is 4-6 mm long. They weigh 2-3 grams. They come to the restaurant already toasted. Most customers won’t even feel like they’ve eaten a grub sandwich.
