Institute of Psychiatry and Neurology on the street. Sobieski in Warsaw currently has no money for current operations. According to Dziennik Gazeta Prawna, two weeks ago the institute had to take another loan from a parabank. Why? Because the money from the previous one, taken from a similar financial institution, has run out.
Warsaw hospital with huge debt
Without this loan, as the newspaper writes, the institute could run out of funds, i.е. for the supply of medicines, food or energy. Daily reports that the hospital’s debt (which must be repaid immediately) is about PLN 20 million. The total liabilities amount to PLN 100 million, of which 60 percent is already in quasi-banks, because the banks refused to lend. The director of the institution, Anna Depukat, told Dziennik Gazeta Prawna that the annual costs of servicing such debts amount to about PLN 8 million.
The newspaper reports that the institute, which is directly subordinate to the Ministry of Health, has been experiencing financial problems for many years. Successive heads of the hospital approached the ministry, which introduced treatment programs, which, however, were not implemented. The current director emphasizes that, not wanting to take more loans, she asked for support, including from the ministry or the office of the prime minister. She claims that she should have received a signal from the Ministry of Health that she needs to resort to another financing from non-bank institutions. The difficult situation translates into patient comfort (many wards are in a terrible state).
Government spokesman’s comment
The newspaper did not receive a comment on this from the Ministry of Health. Government spokesman Piotr Müller commented at today’s press conference, stressing that he spoke with Health Minister Adam Nedzielski. “I want to assure you that no health action directed at patients is in any way threatened, and the Minister of Health is currently monitoring this situation,” said a government spokesman.
Muller noted that correct conclusions about how an institution is run can always be drawn. – And the minister is now analyzing them – said a government spokesman.
