We change clocks in March. Time change 2023

Must read

In March we will have another time change, this time from winter to summer. A similar change is held twice a year in more than 70 countries around the world.

At the end of March, we will move the clock forward one hour. This change allows you to enjoy natural sunlight for longer and save energy.

Clock change 2023. When do we change the clock?

The transition from winter time to summer time will take place on the night of March 25-26. Q. At 2:00 we will set the clock to 3:00, “losing” one hour of sleep.

We will not return to winter time until October 29th, when we will add one hour by moving the clock from 3:00 to 2:00.

Why do we need time change?

The transition from summer to winter time and vice versa is practiced in 70 countries around the world. In theory, turning the clock back should save energy by allowing you to work longer in daylight. In practice, it has been said for many years that changing the clock does more harm than good.

A few years ago, 4.6 million EU citizens took part in an open public consultation, during which they were asked about their views on the transition to summer and winter time. Never before has a single case called so many people to express their opinion on an important topic.

76 percent of the respondents indicated the negative consequences of the functioning of the time change mechanism, and 84 percent. voted to cancel it. Listening to these voices, the European Commission submitted to the member states a draft directive COM/2018/639, which assumed the de facto elimination of the time translation mechanism. Then the draft, supplemented by the amendments of the European Parliament of March 26, 2019, was submitted to the Council of the European Union for intergovernmental agreements.

Change of time remains

However, work on refusing to change the time has been discontinued, and it is not known if this topic will return and when. At the end of last year, Aleksandra Gaevska, a member of the Civic Coalition, filed a request in which she asked the Prime Minister about the stage of work of the Council of Ministers to develop a final position on the adoption by Poland of the so-called common time and at what time, summer or winter, Poland will remain.

In the response of Olga Semenyuk-Patkovskaya, State Secretary of the Ministry of Development and Technology, we read that “on March 7, 2022, the Decree of the Prime Minister of March 4, 2022 on the introduction and abolition of summer time came into force. was published in the Journal of Laws of the Republic of Poland in Central Europe for 2022-2026”, and thus “for the next 5 years, the existing rules regarding summer time, regulated by Directive 2000/84/EC, will apply. , which obliges all member states of the European Union to switch to daylight saving time in a given calendar year during daylight saving time on the last Sunday in March and back to standard time (“winter time”) on the last Sunday in October.
