WIG-20 had a weak year. He loses almost 21 percent.

The last session of 2022 ended on Wall Street with a slight drop in the main indices (S&P 500 -0.25%, DJIA -0.22%, Nasdaq Composite -0.11%). In Europe, the decline was slightly deeper (DAX -1.05%, CAC 40 -1.52%).

The WIG-20, down nearly 21 percent, was one of the weakest major indexes in the world last year. This morning in the stock markets of Asia and Oceania, which managed to wake up after the New Year’s Eve, there were slight changes.

European exchanges

In Europe, the new year began with the growth of the main indices (DAX +0.48%, CAC 40 +0.78%, around 9:30). The new year on the WSE also began with a slight increase in the main indices (WIG-20 +0.46%, about 9:35%).

None of the WSE sectoral indices fell this morning. After an increase of almost 30%. in the last session of last year, the price of Bogdanka’s shares rose by almost 10 percent this morning. Among the components of the sWIG 80, Getin Holding’s share price reached its highest level since 2019.

Bonds

Last year, Swiss 10-year government bond yields ended at their highest level since 2011 (1.57%). Turkey’s 10-year government bond yield fell to its lowest level since 2016 (9.765%). Yields on Polish 10-year bonds remained below 7 percent, while yields on 10-year US government bonds remained below 4 percent.

gas contracts

The natural gas contract markets in the Netherlands and the UK ended 2022 with prices falling by more than 10%. at least six months. The price of US natural gas contracts on the NYMEX fell to its lowest level since March. At the beginning of the new year, the USD/JPY exchange rate tested the minimum of several months of December (-0.26% around 9:10). The euro weakened slightly against the US dollar this morning (-0.27 percent around 9:10 am).

The US dollar hit its lowest level against the Singapore dollar since 2011. The exchange rate of bitcoin against the US dollar started the new year with a small increase (+0.5 percent on Sunday; +0.79 percent this morning around 9:05 am), but still remained below the $17,000 level.
