Russia sells the least gas to Europe since the collapse of the USSR. During the year, exports fell by almost half.
Over the past year, Russian gas exports to European countries have fallen to one of the lowest levels recorded since the collapse of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, Reuters reported.
State-controlled Gazprom, citing CEO Alexei Miller, a longtime ally of President Vladimir Putin, said its exports outside the former Soviet Union would reach 100.9 billion cubic meters this year.
This is a decrease of more than 45%. from 185.1 bcm m in 2021 and includes deliveries to China via the Power of Siberia pipeline, through which Gazprom supplied 10.39 billion cubic meters last year.
Sweden and Denmark admitted that four leaks at Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 were caused by the explosions, but did not say who could be held responsible. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg called the destruction a sabotage. Russia accused British naval personnel of attacking infrastructure, which London said was false.
Last year, Russian gas exports via the Nord Stream 1 gas pipeline amounted to a record 59.2 billion cubic meters.
Europe does not buy from Putin
Direct exports of Russian gas to Germany, Europe’s largest economy, were halted in September following the explosion of the Nord Stream gas pipeline in the Baltic Sea.
Russia has managed to offset lower gas imports to Europe with higher energy prices, and its oil and gas revenues have risen by more than a third in the first 10 months of the year.
Gazprom also announced that gas production in 2022 will be 412.6 billion cubic meters, compared to 514.8 billion cubic meters in 2021, when it reached its highest level in 13 years.
