Google has once again published a list of the most popular topics for 2022. Over the past 12 months, we have focused on: in the war in Ukraine, the death of Elizabeth II also shook the world. Celebrities also made the list. Johnny Depp and Will Smith.

Like every year, Google has prepared a list of the most popular search trends this year on a special page. Sad and sensational topics dominated in 2022.

Google trends 2022 in Poland

Let’s start with our backyard. The fastest growing trends were the phrases: Ukraine, Putin, War in Ukraine, PGG and Russia. Unfortunately, this year is not peaceful, and the thoughts of the Poles mainly revolve around the war taking place in the country of our neighbor. The greatest interest was just after the Moscow attack, that is, at the end of February.

The coal crisis is reflected here as well. For many months we diligently followed the rise in prices for this raw material, politicians and the government took up the topic, and in searches this was reflected in the search for information about PGG - Polska Grupa Górnicza. This was probably how the owners searched the chain for a PGG store, where prices were relatively low compared to market prices (if coal could be bought at all).

In the category people we searched for: Vladimir Putin, Rafalala, Vladimir Zelensky, Lanberry (Małgorzata Ustilovska) and Amber Heard. The leaders of the warring countries were among the leaders. Interestingly, they were separated by Rafalala, who in July became the heroine of one of the biggest scandals in show business this year.

Malgorzata Ustislowska, known as Lanberry, became in high demand in September when it was revealed that she would replace Sylvia Grzeszczak as the Voice of Poland coach.

The top 5 films included: How I fell in love with a gangster, Furiosa, a Tinder scammer, Gierek and Batman. As you can see, Polish productions dominate here, including from Netflix. The biggest buzz on Google came in January with How I Loved a Gangster? It is interesting that Sebastian Fabianski appears in it - the one who will be involved in an affair with Rafalala in the middle of the year.

The series has been dominated by: Dahmer - Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, Big Water, Sandman, Wounded Birds and the fourth season of Stranger Things.

Where, How, When, What is it - that’s what the Poles asked Google

In the Polish edition, as always, there were questions starting with Where, How, When, What is this and the like. We will not list them all, but we will present some curiosities.

The most popular phrases in the questions were: Where to apply for benefits, where is a poster for children and where to buy a covid test. This shows that Poles are still budget-conscious amid the economic crisis, touched by the controversial Kornice Catholic Foundation poster, and still wanting to protect themselves from the coronavirus.

The question “how” was dominated by: How to help Ukraine, How to dry mushrooms in the oven (+ how to freeze mushrooms) and How to check if the TV has DVB-T2. So the themes of war come back here again, and in the fall mushroom madness begins. In addition, the Poles were interested in an important change in the terrestrial television signal.

Our compatriots were also looking for m.in. Information What is SWIFT, PIT 2, NATO and even… sanctions. Again, most of the phrases were related to the war and sanctions imposed by the West on Moscow.

Google Global Search Trends in 2022

Global trends intersect with Polish ones, but the emphasis is placed differently. Most popular search terms: Wordle, India vs. England, Ukraine, Queen Elizabeth, India vs. South Africa. The list opens with a hugely popular puzzle app that has taken the US by storm. However, in Poland it is little known. Ukraine was only third, followed by Elizabeth II.

The rest of the phrases refer to the matches of the Indian national team, which shows how much the Indians are interested in sports and how much the country influences world trends. Moreover, all 5 of the most popular sports matches consist of phrases like India vs X.

In the news category, the most popular search terms were: Ukraine, Queen Elizabeth Passage, Election Results, Powerball Numbers, Monkeypox. This subcategory is dominated by war and the death of the British queen. We are also seeing outgrowths from the US - Powerball is the local equivalent of Lotto, and for a while, Monkeypox (monkeypox) have been tipped off for another COVID-19-like epidemic. In the states in November there was also a so-called. by-elections to the Senate.

Among celebrities, popularity records were broken: Johnny DeppWill Smith, Amber Heard, Chris Rock, Jada Pinkett Smith. All these names are combined into two high-profile scandals. The world has been following the Depp-Heard lawsuits with bated breath. The slap that Will Smith gave to Chris Rock at the Oscars was inflicted precisely in defense of the honor of the actor’s wife, Jada.

In terms of entertainment, the top 3 films are: Thor: Love and Thunder, Black Adam, Top Gun: Maverick. Immediately behind the podium was Batman. The series has been dominated by: Euphoria, Dragon House and Moon Knight.
