The space race of the 21st century continues. However, the main participants have changed. Russia, which until a few decades ago was the main rival of the United States, has given way to India and China.
China will create a base on the moon
China does not hide its serious plans for space exploration. It’s not just about the Tiangong (Heavenly Palace) space station, which is being built without much publicity. Plans to go beyond the orbit of the Earth. The Celestial Empire has an answer not only to the International Space Station, but also to the Artemis program led by NASA in cooperation with ESA.
China, like the United States, plans to land astronauts on the Silver Globe, who will eventually build a base there. This is a project that we just learned a little more about. In this regard, the policy of the Chinese government is somewhat different than in the case of the space station, shrouded in mystery for many years.
Nuclear power plant and mines
The American Artemis program assumes that in 2024 (a rather unrealistic date) astronauts will return to the moon, and then, as part of subsequent missions, will begin to build a base there. The US intentions are not clear. There is talk of scientific research, but it can be assumed that in the end it will also be about what China openly admits.
Representatives of the Chinese space agency told Bloomberg that they are going to the moon to extract resources from it. The construction of the base should take place within the framework of Chang’s missions 6, 7 and 8. The goals are clear. Celestial will build a base to start mining resources. Interestingly, the plans assume that the lunar infrastructure will be powered by energy generated at a nuclear power plant.
