PGNiG: We will use 100% of Baltic Pipe’s capacity planned for this year.

Must read

The capacity of the Baltic Pipe must be fully utilized, says PGNiG and warns against anxiety and uncertainty.

Polskie Górnictwo Naftowe i Gazownictwo issued a statement emphasizing that there are no concerns about gas supplies via the Baltic Pipe gas pipeline. Investments will be opened on October 1, that is, earlier than originally planned. However, a lot of information has appeared in the public space that, despite the gas pipeline being ready, Poland does not guarantee gas supply contracts.

“Due to false information in the media related to the use of the Baltic Pipe gas pipeline, which is scheduled for commissioning on October 1, we clarify that PGNiG will use 100 percent of the gas pipeline’s capacity planned for this year” - we read in the announcement of the Polish oil and gas industry. “Gas supplies are also provided for the entire heating season 2022/23” - also read.

“This is misinformation”

PGNiG also cautions against duplicating misinformation, as this was the name given to the news about the inability to secure enough gas under the Baltic Pipe contracts.

“Dissemination of information that the Baltic Pipe gas pipeline will be empty should be regarded as disinformation, the purpose of which is to cause anxiety and uncertainty in public opinion” PGNiG said in a statement.

Gas supplies secured

The company assures that it is provided with supplies not only until the end of 2022, but is also in further negotiations with Norwegian gas suppliers.

“In recent weeks, PGNiG has entered into additional contracts for the purchase of gas from companies operating on the Norwegian continental shelf, as we announced at the conference following the results of the 1H and 2Q 2022. As a result, the Company has gas volumes for the Baltic Pipe gas pipeline at a level that guarantees that, along with other sources of acquisition (domestic production, LNG supplies and stockpiles), it will be able to fully meet the needs of its customers in Poland in the upcoming heating season.” - reminded the company.

What will happen to gas supplies in the long term? “The company is still negotiating with Norwegian gas suppliers to optimize the use of Baltic Pipe’s reserved capacity in the long term. Gas supplies from this direction will become one of the main elements of the PGNiG Group’s diversified gas portfolio.”
