Mistry was the President of Tata Group from 2012 to 2016. It is an Indian multi-company that has existed since the nineteenth century, which brings together almost 100 companies from various industries, incl. automotive and metallurgical.

The total capitalization of more than a dozen companies of the concern in 2017 amounted to 130 billion dollars, and the annual revenue was 50 billion. They employ more than 700,000 people. The European concern is known primarily for the production of cheap cars Tata Cars.

Mistry’s fortune was estimated at around $29 billion, making him one of the richest people in India and the 143rd richest person in the world.

The fatal accident occurred about 100 km from Bombay when the car driven by Mistry and three other people crashed into the barriers while trying to overtake. Two people died on the spot, the rest of the passengers were hospitalized. The billionaire sitting in the back seat had to be wearing a seatbelt, which probably prevented the airbags from deploying at the time of the impact.
