Polish drivers use flashlights to warn the police patrol. This is an old tradition. Actually it’s illegal. Police officers from Piaseczno recorded such offenses from a drone. The drivers’ explanations were interesting.
On Polish roads, a relatively common violation is the use of high-beam headlights contrary to the current regulations. This behavior may mean not only a fine of PLN 200 and 4 demerit points, but also encourage us to “warn” someone who may endanger other road users.
Many drivers, as part of their driving culture, use their hazard warning lights to thank or apologize to other motorists for something, such as cutting off the road. Others blink at each other to warn against forest animals or to let you know we forgot to turn on the lights in the car. However, the worst possible use of the light, which is against the rules, is “flashing” to warn of a police patrol. The police reminds that the only acceptable situation when we can use the light in this way in a populated area is to warn drivers coming from the opposite direction of a potential danger on the road.
Unfortunately, on our roads this behavior is observed quite often. Even worse, there are situations when drivers, having received such a signal, turn around. Why is this happening? Because they want to avoid a police patrol, because… they are under the influence of alcohol or do not have permits to drive in a vehicle, or, even worse, they have an injunction against driving.
Illegal Warnings
In recent days, the Piaseczno traffic police, in cooperation with the SRS - Specialist Rescue Service, have carried out events in which a drone with a zoom was used to accurately observe the behavior of the driver. It turned out that motorists, “warning” each other about road control, blink their headlights at each other. The interpretations of the controlled stunned the security forces themselves.
One of the men explained that he had seen a deer and warned the other drivers about it. However, he did not know that his behavior was being watched from the sky and there was no question of any deer. The woman driving the BMW tried to convince the uniformed officers that she had confused the headlights with the wipers, while the other driver explained that he had a nervous tic.
As we read, each of the controlled received a corresponding reprimand from law enforcement officers. During the checks, the officers seized two registration documents, as it turned out that the drivers were traveling in vehicles, the technical condition and performance of which threatened the safety and order of the road.
