Kia poll: electric vehicles raise special requests

Must read

A representative study commissioned by Kia by YouGov market research institute provides information on what is important to potential buyers of electric vehicles. For example, more than half would like to use their car as a powerful 220-volt power source, for example when hiking or to charge e-bikes. And given the slightly longer “refuellings” of electric vehicles, the ability to comfortably spend breaks in a trip in a car is an important aspect for many respondents.

A long battery warranty is one of the pragmatic criteria important for those interested in electric vehicles. The study also shows that in general there is a high willingness to invest in models with a large range.

In a survey conducted in mid-August 2022, 1,021 drivers from Germany who do not yet have an electric car were first asked how likely it was that their next vehicle would be a purely electric car. 48% responded that they would buy the trend on electric cars or at least would consider buying. 39 percent answered “0”, the rest of the respondents did not answer. At the second stage, potential buyers were asked in detail how important certain properties and features of electric vehicles equipment are for them.

52% want a 220 volt socket

Thanks to the powerful battery, the electric car can serve as a 220 volt battery. To be able to connect to the battery, a special technology is required, which is still rare on the market. A majority of 52% consider this feature to be “important” (35%) or even “very important” (17%). It is rated especially high among respondents living in households of three or more people (56% important/very important), living with children under 18 (59%), or living more than 20 km away from their place of work. (60%).

When asked what they were most likely to use a 220-volt outlet for, a good 60 percent of those interested in this feature chose one of three possible answers “Charge electric bikes” (22%), “Help other electric vehicle riders, charge the battery” (20 %) and “camping” (19%). 35 percent did not prioritize, 4 percent named other features such as “supplying the home” or “emergency power.”

42% want to comfortably relax in the car

The study shows that the majority of those surveyed would like Stromer to provide comfort during breaks. In total, for 42% of those interested in electric vehicles, such a high level of comfort during breaks is “important” or “very important” (30 and 12%, respectively). More than half of those aged 25 to 44 years (25 to 34 years: 51%; 35 to 44 years: 53%), as well as those surveyed with a distance between home and work of more than 20 km (53%) and in persons having children under the age of 18 in the household (53%).

When asked about specific items of equipment, “reclining chairs or lounge seats” are at the top of their wish list: 82 percent of those surveyed who place a high value on comfort while relaxing say they are “very important” or “important” (28 and 54 percent). , respectively). In addition to a good audio system (75%; of these very important: 27%; important: 48%), a 220-volt outlet in the car is also a priority here (74%; very important: 29%; important: 45%).

Guaranteed for long battery life and a range of more than 400 km

When asked how important the battery warranty is to them, 95 percent of those interested in Stromer answered “very important” (70%) or “important” (25%). In the age group from 45 to 54 years old, it was even 99%, in the age group of 55 years and older - 98% (of which 78% are “very important”).

67% of potential EV buyers would choose models or drive options with a range of over 400 kilometers (400-500 km: 33%; over 500 km: 34%). Almost all respondents with a personal income of more than 4,500 euros do this (94%; 400-500 km and more than 500 km, 47% each). A range of 300 to 400 kilometers will be sufficient for 23 percent.

The trend to invest in longer range is also confirmed by Kia’s order data: for the electric version of the Niro, which was previously available in two battery sizes, 97 percent of orders were for the larger 64.8kWh battery. power, therefore it is offered exclusively for new generation crossovers. More than 90 percent of the new Kia EV6 electric car and Kia e-Soul SUV are also being ordered with high-capacity batteries.
